The Canadian Network for Child and Youth Rehabilitation (CN-CYR) has been operating as a network of CAPHC since 2003. CN-CYR was formed under the sponsorship of CAPHC to meet an identified need within the paediatric rehabilitation community for national collaboration and to further CAPHC’s strategic direction with respect to broadening its focus across the continuum of healthcare. Since its inception, momentum and interest in CN-CYR has continued to grow and in the short time that it has been in existence, CN-CYR has achieved a number of its goals.
Accomplishments to date for CN-CYR include:
- A dedicated steering committee of 17 inter-provincial members which meets monthly by teleconference
- The establishment 6 working sub-groups on topics such as outcome indicators, waiting times, data collection, annual workshop planning, sponsorship and business planning.
- Sponsorship of 3 annual rehab workshops in conjunction with the CAPHC conference which have been increasingly well attended and have received very positive evaluations.
- Partnership with CanChild to expand the intranet nationally
- Representation at a number of national forums (ie. Waiting times, Research, Data Collection)
- Partnership with the Ontario Rehabilitation Research Network
- Knowledge translation
The financial support for the work of CN-CYR to date has been accomplished through in kind donations of services from CAPHC combined with sponsorship support from member organizations and private industry.
Future Directions
In evaluating our future needs as a rehabilitation network, the CN-CYR steering committee is proposing a plan to sustain and grow the organization based on our strategic priorities.
