The Rotman Award for Paediatric Home Care Innovation
Nomination deadline: Monday, June1, 2009.

The Rotman Award for Paediatric Home Care Innovation has been created to help grow and advance the work of important home care delivery systems, ultimately enabling better care and treatment for Canadian children. This $100,000 award for innovation and best practices has been made possible through a generous gift from Janis Rotman. The Rotman Award is offered through National Grants and sponsored by SickKids Foundation.

The purpose of the Rotman Award is threefold:

  • to recognize successful and innovative home and community health care programs serving children, youth and families in Canada
  • to identify and promote examples of best practice program or organizational models from which other organizations can learn
  • to encourage further innovation in the winning organization by awarding a cash prize

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Any Canadian non-profit organization delivering home and community health care services to infants, children, youth and their families is eligible to be nominated or self-nominate. Award recipients must demonstrate best practices and innovation.

SickKids Foundation – New Investigator Research Grant
Application Deadline:  Monday, February 23, 2009

New Investigator Research Grants provide important early career development support to child health researchers. It is intended that New Investigator Research Grants of up to $100,000 per year for up to three years will enhance the grant recipient’s ability to compete with more senior investigators for research grants from other funders.

New: Eligibility Criteria
Through this Request for Applications, we are seeking to fund research carried out by New Investigators in specific priority areas that will respond to children’s health challenges and needs. The specific priority areas for this Request for Applications are:

  1. Understanding Environmental Influences on Health and Disease
  2. Understanding the Developing Brain
  3. Improving Mental Health Care for Children & Youth
  4. Improving Prevention & Treatment of Childhood Obesity
  5. Improving Outcomes of Paediatric Cancer

Who is Eligible to Apply?

New: Mentorship Prize
Mentorship awards of $5,000 annually for approved projects will be offered for the duration of the grant in recognition of the importance for New Investigators to receive the support and guidance that will yield the best possible research.  The mentorship award will be directed through the mentor’s institution and may be used by the mentor in support of the mentor’s child health research activities. 

New Investigator Research Grants is a jointly sponsored program of SickKids Foundation and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research - Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH).

Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program

The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation is funding the Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program (CCHCSP), a collaborative association among 13 Canadian academic child health centres and associated universities. The primary goal of the CCHCSP is to provide interdisciplinary research training to equip Canadian child and youth health clinicians to become career clinician-scientists. Awards are available at three levels: doctoral, postdoctoral and mentored career development. Details can be found at the CCHCSP website at http://www.cchcsp.ca

Community Conference Grants: Knowledge Sharing with Families

In the face of the health challenges presented by acute illnesses, disabilities or chronic conditions, it is important for families to have information and knowledge sharing opportunities with health professionals and community organizations.

The purpose of the Community Conference Grants Program is to support events which are organized by and/or for families with children with health challenges, including but not limited to children with acute illness, chronic illness, and disabilities. Eligible events will have a focus on information sharing with families and health professionals and/or community organizations. Please note that academic conferences are not eligible for funding.

Awards are limited to an annual maximum request of $5,000. There are three deadlines for applications each fiscal year: May 31; September 30; and January 31.
